Bright Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) observed

A bright coronal mass ejection took place from the north-west limb yesterday.

The majority of the cloud is heading north as we will see on the CME prediction model.

However a glancing blow will be possible on February 22nd.

Long Duration Flare and CME

At the time of this post we are currently seeing a LDE (long duration event) flare from a new sunspot region located off of the NE limb. New Region 1402 is a large DHO class Sunspot Region with a spot count of 7. This ongoing flare is currently at C 6.4, and the latest Stereo images are showing that a CME is accompanying this event. Pictured below are images from SDO EVE, SOHO, SDO AIA 171 telescope, and Stereo Behind, of this ongoing flare and CME. Images Courtesy of NASA SDO, Stereo, SOHO, and GOES.

Region 1404 numbered and USAF/NOAA Report

Solar activity has been at low levels for the past 24
hours. Region 1401 (N17E60) has been the most productive region,
producing multiple C-class events. The largest event of the period
was C2 x-ray flare from around the west limb near old Region 1391
(N12, L=013). There are currently 9 numbered sunspot regions on the
disk, with Region 1403 (S19E29) being numbered today.

What Happens in a Solar Flare? Sunspot Update - A CME Took Place

Solar activity increased a bit yesterday. Today its quiet so far but with the active regions on the disc
we expect more flares during the next days.

We noticed a CME today on Stereo images. This CME was not earth direced. It will not effect us in any way. Source was a eruption on the farside.

Sunspots Get Numbered

We talked about yesterday the new numerous Sunpots on the disc get numbered .
Regions 1399 and 1400 emerged onto the solar disc. Regions 1401 and 1402 rotated over the north-east limb. As we all know this are the ones which produced the latest bigger Flares.
Region 1401 yesterday: C4.1 at 12:09, M1.4 at 13:18, C2.8 at 18:40, C2.1 at 21:54, C1.1 at 23:25 UTC. 1401 seems to be the more active one. 1402 above is the bigger one in size. All other groups shows up some changing in size and structure.
Region 1395 decayed slowly and was quiet. Region 1396 became less complex during the day although there is still weak olarity intermixing (flared yesterday morning C 2.1 03:35 UTC). Region 1397 decayed slowly and was quiet. Region 1398 lost penumbral area and gained a few spots. Region 1399 rotated into view at the southeast limb on January 13 and got an SWPC number the next day. This region flared before it rotated on the disc(noticed that on stereo). Region 1400 emerged in the southeast quadrant on January 13 and was assigned an SWPC number the next day.

Active Regions Incoming + New Sunspots

   Solar Activity Update:
23:30 UT

What a day....
Here is the latest Solar Activity update video :)
We had a M Flare, numerous sunspots emerged and some active regions are  rotating in..and we also have some nice Prominences on the disc!

M1.4 Solar Flare Today From Incoming Region

We have another long duration event. The flare from the active incoming Region on the east limb is still in pogress as you can see and reached now a M flare!

We have a M 1.4  today peaking at 13:18 UT from the actice incoming Region on the east limb

This flare ended up topping out at a M1.4

USAF/NOAA Report, New Sunspots numbered

UPDATE-22:35 UT - USAF/NOAA Report of Solar and Geophysical Activity 13 January 2012

Solar activity has been at low levels for the past 24 hours. A filament channel eruption was observed around 12/2130Z in the northern hemisphere around Region 1396 (N26E18). In connection with this event, a CME was observed in LASCO C2 imagery at 12/2136Z.

Sunspot Update , Disturbance + Solar activity

We need another Update one reason is the fresh numbered Region 1396. Its rapidly growing, as we can see on the posted vid below.  The Region to the southeast we talked about this before, will  get numbered soon (possible 1397). And a new Region close to the south of Region 1395 emerged. And finally we can see the active Region which produced the long duration flare on SDO images. Its just behind the east limb and will rotate in soon.

Solar Update Jan. 13th 2012 - New Sunspot + Prominence

The new Sunspot to the east (close to 1395) gets numbered over night as Sunspot Region 1396.
We noticed some changes at Region 1391. There was a quick development in the southern part of the leading spot section. We can also see that the magnetic structure formed as well. Reporting Soleninfo  a chance of  M flare is given from this region.
Region 1395 decayed a bit and produced a C 1.5 at 00:58 UT. Another flare comes from that incoming region which produced the  long duration flare yesterday. A new Region emerged to the southeast.

Solar Flare Update - Jan. 12, 2012

   Solar Update 13:50 UTC

We had another climb in the Flux chart. This time it peaks at 13:23UT as a
C3.3 Flare

   Located at Sunspot Region 1393
LMSAL changed also the Region ( long duration flare )1393 to N30E87 : http://www.lmsal.com/solarsoft/last_events/gev_20120112_0754.html

We have a Vid of the latest CME and the long duration C Flare. This confirms the possible Location just behind 1395. And the latest Sunspot Update

Solar Activity Update - Jan 11th 2012 - 00:37 UTC

We have another Flare again at Sunspot Region 1393. A  C2.2 flare peaks at 00:11 UT

Latest SDO AIA 304 comfirms this:

       Latest SDO AIA 304 Helioviewer:

Sunspot Activity Update for Jan. 10th 2012

We noticed some significant Solar change over the last time. Sunspot Region 1391 increased in magnetically complex to a  Beta-Gamma type group. Region 1393 grows again a bit in size, from 250 to 520 millionths but lost a little penumbral area and displayed so far no significant changes otherwise. Region 1389 was quiet and rotates to the southwest limb and will be soon out of view.

Solar activity was quiet so far. We had a C 1.0 from Region 1393 and a small B 7.1 possible from 1391.  The coronal hole (CH492) in the southern hemisphere is still in Earth facing position. There is a new in the northern hemisphere(CH493). This could rotate into an Earth facing position on January 12. In cause of the Earth facing position from CH492 weak effects from CH492; unsettled intervals on January 12-13 are expected.

New sunspot says hello with a nice flare

Region 1395 knows how to say "hello"
A  C2.6 peaks at 20:16 UT

It seems to be from Sunspot Region 1395 but as we observed the result was maybe from a Region which is closely behind SunspotRegion 1395.

Solar Activity Update for Jan 8th 2012 - 22:38 UT

   Hi,
Solar activity is still quiet. We had some small C Class Flares most of them from Region 1393.
But also 1389 was flaring a bit and will soon rotate from the visible disc.
Region 1393 grows again a bit and the Region next to it, Region 1392 disappeared
