Old Sunspot Region 1678 Returns
A new active sunspot region is expected to rotate into view during this
weekend (March 9-11). This is the well known old sunspot region 1678 making it's return. In the image to the left we can see also another active region several day's behind it.
Region 1678 was responsible for the massive CME that occured on the backside of the sun on March 5, 2013 (view that report HERE). Because of the activity sunspot 1678 maintained while on the backside, there has been much anticipation of this sunspot regions return.

New Sunspot numbered as 1690
We have two sunspot regions which disappeared yesterday while one new region rotated into view over the north-east limb as a single spot HSX Alpha type group at 20 millionths in size and was numbered as region 1690.
Region 1689 grew from a BXO Beta group at 10 millionths to a DSO Beta type group at 150 millionths in size.

Active Sunspot Approaching the North-East Limb
There is an active sunspot region approaching the north-east limb that we have been keeping an eye on.
This is the return of old Sunspot 1665 that will be rotating into a Earth facing position sometime during this coming weekend.
This sunspot is an active region that has been producing solar flares on the far side of the solar disk over the last couple of days..
We should know by the end of this weekend if this new region will remain active once it rotates into a Earth facing Position or fizzle out.

Return of Sunspot Regions 1402 & 1401
Today, we see an increase in solar Xray activity with a a string of C class flares. C1.4, C7.9, C1.5, C2.7, C7.7, C5.3 and a C2.7. This is due to us seeing the return of old sunspot regions 1402 and 1401 as they appear just over the Eastern limb.
Old sunspot region 1402 has remained a strong sunspot region in it's rotation around the backside of the solar disk.
This region will be making it's official return tomorrow sometime, when it will be renamed by NOAA and given a new number.
Expect solar activity to increase as these regions rotate into a more Earth directed position.
Here is a list of M and X flares we seen from old sunspot region 1402 and 1401 on their last rotation in a Earth facing position

Solar Activity Update Jan. 16th 2012 - CME With LED Flare
This is a solar activity update to the LED (long duration event) flare that took place around sunspot region 1402 in the early hours of Jan 16th 2012. This LDE flare lasted about 4 hours, starting at 02:36:00 and ended at 06:46:00 with a peak at around 04:44:00. there was a CME that was produced with this LDE flare as we can see here on STEREO B.

M1.4 Solar Flare Today From Incoming Region
Friday, January 13, 2012
Sunspot Update , Disturbance + Solar activity
We need another Update one reason is the fresh numbered Region 1396. Its rapidly growing, as we can see on the posted vid below. The Region to the southeast we talked about this before, will get numbered soon (possible 1397). And a new Region close to the south of Region 1395 emerged. And finally we can see the active Region which produced the long duration flare on SDO images. Its just behind the east limb and will rotate in soon.

Solar Flare Update - Jan. 12, 2012
We had another climb in the Flux chart. This time it peaks at 13:23UT as a
LMSAL changed also the Region ( long duration flare )1393 to N30E87 : http://www.lmsal.com/solarsoft/last_events/gev_20120112_0754.html
We have a Vid of the latest CME and the long duration C Flare. This confirms the possible Location just behind 1395. And the latest Sunspot Update

Region1395 flares, Sunspot Update
We notived only 3 solar flares yesterday however this morning we had 3. Two of them took place at Region 1393 and one (we can see that in the image) at Region 1395
Weak effects from CH492 could cause a few unsettled intervals on January 12-13.Tuesday, January 10, 2012

UPDATE JAN 10TH 22:30 UT , Solar Activity quiet?
Around 22:00 UT we noticed some Flare activity (on SDO) around sunspot 1393.
and closely after that another C Flare, peaking at 23:01 UT as a C 1.7

Sunspot Activity Update for Jan. 10th 2012
We noticed some significant Solar change over the last time. Sunspot Region 1391 increased in magnetically complex to a Beta-Gamma type group. Region 1393 grows again a bit in size, from 250 to 520 millionths but lost a little penumbral area and displayed so far no significant changes otherwise. Region 1389 was quiet and rotates to the southwest limb and will be soon out of view.
Solar activity was quiet so far. We had a C 1.0 from Region 1393 and a small B 7.1 possible from 1391. The coronal hole (CH492) in the southern hemisphere is still in Earth facing position. There is a new in the northern hemisphere(CH493). This could rotate into an Earth facing position on January 12. In cause of the Earth facing position from CH492 weak effects from CH492; unsettled intervals on January 12-13 are expected.
Thank You :)

Solar Activity Update for Jan 8th 2012 - 22:38 UT
Hi,
Solar activity is still quiet. We had some small C Class Flares most of them from Region 1393.
But also 1389 was flaring a bit and will soon rotate from the visible disc.
Region 1393 grows again a bit and the Region next to it, Region 1392 disappeared

Finally Some Solar Activity

There was a large gap in STEREO data, but it is now updating. The 1st images get see show that there was a large CME on the farside (non earth facing side) of the sun. Here is the 1st image we see after STEREO started updating again
